This is a project I did in a typography class, where I had the opportunity to design a mural in downtown Racine. I chose a poem that spoke to me and designed a mural for a wall.
These were my first three illustrations I created using typography that related to the concept of the poem. My inspiration was, people holding hands, in love and octopus arms extending throughout the mural.
Here is the final design. I combined my ideas from the other two designs into my final one. I decided to keep the sunset in the final. The stars represent the many ways to love as the arms of an octopus. One of the changes that I made for my final design was the font, so that it's clearly legible. Another, was the skin color, so it shows diversity.
Lastly, I made a broadside letterpress that includes the whole poem.
